Hello,

I'm new to this game. this may be a little long - it is "the story so
far"

Hardware: Bi-celeron 500, ABIT BP6, Promise Fasttrack 66, 4 x IBM 20 Gb
IDE/66

Software: RedHat 6.1, kernel 2.2.14, raidtools 0.90-6

I have reserved one disk for /, /boot, /usr and swap. I want to put
/home and /var on a three disk RAID5. The disks are divided into three
partitions with 7 in the RAID and two hot spares (I know that if a disk
crashes I will have problems but I am more interested in escaping fs
corruption).

I have had a working RAID5 on this machine. I took the machine apart
because the kernel will not accept these parameters at boot:
        ide1="1st ide/66 on MB = boot disk"
        ide2="2nd ide/66 on MB"
        ide3="1st ide/66 on Promise"
        ide4="2nd ide/66 on Promise"

1st question: what is the caracter limit on "append=" in lilo.conf?

I am now ignoring the Promise card until there is a driver for it. I am
trying all four drives on the ide/66 interface of the MB.

2nd question: How do I get rid of the persistent superblock on the
drives?

The mkraid is not working because it is reading the parameters of the
old setup I was using.

3rd question: Does anyone have a similar working machine?

4th question: Where do I find all necessary patches? Filewatcher.org is
extremely confusing at times...

Thanks for your time I hope I have been clear.

Tony Grant
