Since this is posted in linux-smp, I cannot honestly say the 2940 ultra wide
adapter is compatible with kernel 2.0.30. I had quite a few cases of disk
corruption when I used the Adaptec for my dual Pentium Pro system. I switched
to a TekRam 390F, and have had no problems since then until the latest kernels
(the 3.0g version of the NCR53C8XX driver didn't like my 3 year old Archive
DDS-1 DAT tape drive, until I removed the device termination and put on an
active terminator). I am now using the Adaptec for my removable hard disk,
tape drives, and cdrom, and am using the latest beta patches from
ftp.dialnet.net, which claim to have SMP fixes.
In the past when scsi controllers came up, the Mylex/Buslogic scsi controllers
were well thought of. As I mentioned above, I use TekRam 390F (and the narrow
390U) controllers, and they seem to work well.
