Nothing is smp-compatible with 2.0.30 -- it had a slew of smp bugs in
it. Almost all of them have been resolved. Adaptec even supports linux
and freebsd decently now. I've used adaptec 2940's for years,
exclusively with smp kernels, and many in dual PPro systems. The only
case of disk corruption occurred in an adapter I bought around three
years ago (kernel 2.0.0? 2.0.11? something like that) which I suspect
was caused at least partly by Adaptec's nasty habit of altering their
BIOS firmware at will -- that particular card has always been trouble
and I'll bet a nickel that (even though I did reflash it once) its BIOS
is buggy and not fixable. If you put a different/new card in, by now it
would probably be rock solid.
