yes.  ipchains is extremely clean, simple-to-use and efficient.  there
are aids in migrating from ipfwadm, but ipchains is so clear I didn't
bother.

as for nfs, I believe that if you have the latest updates from RH installed
(ie, 5.x + updates), 2.1 will just work.  note that updates are REQUIRED
for any competently-admin'ed installation, since, for instance, there are 
widely-exploited remote-root holes fixed in the updates.  I have not seen
any dramatically improved numbers for the kernel-resident nfsd, though,
compared to the usual unfsd (which still works under 2.1.)
