Hmmm, at first I have to state that this is non SMP-related, so please,
can we
concentrate on SMP at this list?

Concerning your mail, I am quite sure that if you invest a lot in your
CPU
cooling, (e.g. peltier elements on your CPU etc.) you will probably be
able
to overclock your CPU to 600MHz.
The price for the speed is lack of stability (as you can read in your
own mail):
"It ran for quite awhile but froze during a torture test"
What do you want to say to us? Is it: Overclock your CPUs and reboot
your
machine twice a day due to cooling problems. ???

I do not think that Intel clock their Celerons at 333Mhz only for
marketing
reasons, they probably know that their customers will run into problems
when
using a higher clock. I remember when I bought my new 486-DX2-66 with an
"Ice-Cap": My reseller suggested to overclock it to 80Mhz. All was fine
except
that I could not use my streamer and could not format my floppies any
more.
What I want to say is that overclocking can trigger several other
problems.
Moreover you can say nothing about the lifetime of your CPUs.

I doubt that a serios sysadmin will ever put up an overclocked machine.
