I must agree with Dave, as we are all striving for the same thing... As much power for as little of price as can be had from a desktop system! SMP Linux fills this role very well, but the ability to purchase hardware for less that may be modified to run (in a stable manner) greatly enhances our efforts and makes for very interesting reading as well. Please resist the urge to complain about certain areas of the technology that may seem mundane or even foolhardy to you as they are very important and interesting to others.
