Hi Dan,

thanks for offering help towards my/our problem. The filesystem errors are
reproduceable. I have to explain some things for better understanding.
We have Oracle8 database running on the machine, which is a dual PII-400 with 1 GB
RAM, one onboard U2W and two Adaptec U2W {extern}. The two "extern" U2W serving five
disks each, as there are four disks working as stripe/raid0 and one disk is single -
same conditions on both controllers. Running systems is a SuSE linux 6.0, kernel
2.0.36.
By building database wether using one or two cpus everything is working alright.
Building index files of the database wether using one or two processor we get errors.
Checking the filesystem by e2fsck brings out duplicate blocks. Changing disks and
controllers did not help and changing chunk-size and stride did not help either.
This morning the machine hangs up again on the scsi bus and I can't get in so I had to
press reset. Checking filesystems while booting gives an unexpected inconsistency on
md0.
I don't know where the "real" problem is; hardware, software? All I know that the
system was running fine three weeks ago - we benchmarked with Oracle8; then - I don't
what has happened - it started "erroring".
I had tcl8.0 installed of a lower version - SuSE5.3 - could this be the cause?
I am perplexed and have any idea.

Greetings, Dietmar
