If you are happy compiling your own kernels etc then slack is fine. The
only problem you will have is that the libc (5.4.46) isn't threaded.
Having said that I run Slackware 4.0 on my duel P100 and my dual P2 333
with no problem. How ever you have to make sure that you select the
correct kernel / root disk etc.
You really need to run a newer kernel on an smp box as 2.2 has much better
smp support. 2.2.7 and 2.2.10 are reported to work well.
The redhat 6.0 installer normally autodetects an smp m/b and installs an
smp kernel, and glibc-2.1 in threaded so can run on mutliple cpus at once.
