That's not always enough. For example, I sent some patches to the
util-linux maintainer to fix last/wall some days ago.

The usual mistake is to read/write utmp/wtmp directly. That
doesn't work with the extended format glibc 2.1 uses for utmp
entries.

Another misfeature was the detection of security breaches. Unix98
ptys were falsely announced as an "attempt to break security,"
because they contain a '/'.
