You can recompile the kernel (if you are happy doing that), or can install
the kernel-smp-2.2.12-20.rpm kernel rpm off the redhat 6.1 cd. I think
that you may need to edit /etc/lilo.conf to boot this kernel by default.

Yes, it's old. I'm not really sure how the redhat system ids smp boxes but
I think it pokes the ioapic in some way (comments anyone, Alan?). This may
not work as expected on older boxes (I guess)

Are the normal 2 choices.
