Correct.  However, you need the accellerator card (see below)
and mine had jumpers (and yes, I had set them to something
different than I remembered at first).

That is your problem!  You need at least a 1000KBit/s
controler to be able to use your TR3-Tape drive.  You can
actually get 2000KBit/s from a controller (but about 50% of
the bandwith is overhead!).  

Now, you'll say "but it works with Windows".  Well, yes, it
does, but it silently halves the data density, in other words,
you won't have 3.2/1.6 GB tapes but 1.6/0.8 GB tapes.  Ftape
doesn't do these kind of compromises, hence, it won't work.
So, you want an accellerator card.
