This is looking more like a hardware / firmware problem. No-one has yet 
reported it with an Ericsson Piperider, which is very similar, but does have 
different firmware. Is anyone seeing the "sleep" problem with Ericsson cable 
modems?

Thomas - did / can you try rebooting the machine with the modem power 
remaining on? If that doesn't fix it, then the problem is either an illegal 
command we are sending to the modem every so often (seems unlikely, but I 
will definately check), or a modem problem (in which case I might need to 
talk to Broadcom).
