Your dmesg output looks as if it's got far enough to start a
usb-storage device, how are you trying to mount the device?

I'd still recommend 2.6.0-testx (you may need to update modutils too)
over any 2.4 kernel.  I'm using -test5 on two machines now (although
only using USB stuff on one of them) and it's been fine.
