I don't really know what to say about this.
I downloaded it from www.kernel.org just yesterday.
The file looks like this...
drwxr-xr-x 15 573 573 744 Oct 3
18:17 linux-2.4.22
-rw------- 1 knoppix knoppix 29528612 Oct 2
14:44 linux-2.4.22.tar.bz2
... and uname -a gives ...
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/knoppix# uname -a
Linux knoppix 2.4.22 #1 SMP Thu Oct 2 14:58:22 CEST
2003 i686 GNU/Linux
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/knoppix#

Is it possible that I have done something wrong or
missed something
whilst compiling it?
I basically did:
make xconfig using the Knoppix .config as a starting
point.
make dep && make bzImage && make modules && make
modules_install
cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot
then set it up in grub and rebooted.

I am not actually trying to mount anything. I am
letting CD-Roast handle all
that. But I am led to believe that unless 'cdrecord
-scanbus' reports your
drive then CD-Roast will have no chance.

I did try 2.6.0-test5 (as was current then) a little
while ago, but
basically nothing to do with modules worked. Your
comment about updating
modutils perhaps has something (or indeed everything)
to do with this,
as I certainly have not done anything at all about
modutils.
I am willing to have another go with 2.6.0-testx, but
could you please give
me an idea of what is required to move to a 2.6
kernel. If I move to an
updated modutils, is it backward compatible, or will I
need to have two
modutils, one for 2.6.x and the other for 2.4.x?

Thanks to you both for your help
Kevin
