In all this discussion of usbdevfs (which I do understand is key
infrastructure) and its future, I think that this point got missed.
Things that I think need to be done for 2.4.0:
* Get usb-storage out of experimental state, and make it build and work
in the kernel
* More testing on HID devices (especially touchpads and UPCs), plus some
more work on the binding to user space programs.
* More testing on printers.
* Integration of the CATC and kaweth drivers into the kernel, and heavy
testing / debugging of these two and the ADMtek driver such that they
can get out of experimental state.
* Single UHCI driver.
* Make OHCI driver work with PPC (iMac?) architecture chipset. (Maybe
done, just needs testing?)
* Changes to Config to make USB, UHCI, OHCI and HID (input keyboard and
mouse) by default (plus maybe usbdevfs, but there is already plenty said
on that). Also clean up description names and help information (again).
This list is in rough priority order, based on how I see Linux users
adopting USB devices and the current state of Linux USB.
Randy: do you anticipate taking a 2.4.x kernel to PlugFest? :)
