There's been some discussion on the linux-serial mailing list about how
using select on a serial port isn't the best idea. Instead you should
rely on the line settings. Check the archives of the mailing list for
the reasoning behind this (I don't think I saved it.)
Not to say that the driver shouldn't be fixed to work properly though :)
