Thanks for the explanation Dave. I found that the uni network lets me connect to web servers on any port, but I have to use a proxy. E.g. wget http://canvas.gnome.org:65348/pybliographer/ works, with the line http_proxy = http://webgate.canterbury.ac.nz:3128/ in .wgetrc. As many web servers are not on port 80 I guess $corporate can't really close it off. If bouncer supports proxies, it should be possible to set up the sshd on any port outside $corporate - correct? Having to set up sshd for bouncer on port 443 at home can be a stopper id there's a web server running already.
