Well, I'm in the pragmatism camp. The bottom line still is to get some
job done, and the choice usually is a) buy windows (no way), or b) buy
some commercial software, so I get on with it and choose b). Linux
users' generally expectation of getting everything for free is
hindering Linux on the way to becoming an alternative to Microsoft. In
commercial environments (this is where Linux has to succeed) money is
paid for solutions, not politics. Primary importance is whether
software is available, or Linux won't cut it on the desktop. I'm not
only talking office software here. Open source is nice, but if you make
it always a prerequisite, you'll miss out on some of the fun. See video
editing. In case there is an equivalent (in functionality) oss solution,
I'll drop the closed stuff like a hot potato too, e.g. nvidia mobos.

linuxant is providing a solution, and as such they have to be commended
for trying to make money with Linux software. They deserve to get paid,
but by conexant, not me. With 2 easy alternatives now available and
common, I'm afraid conexant is dead on Linux (special cases excepted,
e.g. laptop, where parts can't be singled out).
