Conexant modems come in two types know as either "controllerless" or
"softmodem"

I just happen to have a fairly late beta driver package for the controllerless
type vis:- hcfpcimodem-0.99mbsibeta02123100.tar.gz
It worked quite well, i.e. over 50kBits, when I installed it on somebody's
machine a few months ago. You'll have to crank the compiler though.

I don't think the amount of effort required to make a controllerless modem
driver go equates to being deserving of the Death Penalty.

Read

and

The're both very informative.

NB. This PC runs Linux. If you find a virus apparently from me,
it has forged the e-mail headers on someone else's machine.
Please do not notify me when this occurs. Thanks.
