From my point of view, VMware has really lost the plot in keeping up with new kernels etc.

I think you are right. I got it installed but could not get the mouse working correctly even after updating VMWare Tools.
I must have crossed the right fingers, and can report successfully getting vmware-server to install, mouse included, via the following.

1. vmware-uninstall.pl
2. download latest version - currently 2.0.2-203138.
3. extract and run the installation then follow this link found by Robert at the weekend:

No biggie that the setup is now the full set of questions given the uninstall, plenty of warnings though ultimately reported success with each module etc. Kernel versions in this link don't match, however others had found it worked with KK's 2.6.31-14 so I took a chance.

While I do agree it would be nice if VMware picked up their game a bit (that latest version is only 4 days older than the final KK release - come ON!) I've not had to run any any-any-any patch for some time, only re-run vmware-config.pl on each kernel update. I guess I'm getting what I pay for.

I have zero experience with VirtualBox - can I bring in my vmware installs?

Cheers,
Roger
