AFAIK, *all* Olympus cameras will work, in one way or another in Linux.

How about those with digital usb cameras telling us which ones work easily in linux, and which do not? and which disto?

Olympus C-4040Z works fine- just mount it as a FAT filesystem. I also have a Dazzle Smart Media Reader for it, which works just fine as a USB 2.0 device also mounted as a FAT filesystem. I haven't tried my father's Fujifilm, but he won't let me, though I sort of think it would work- the filesystem on the smart media card is FAT.
