 Yes, both planes were headed for the west coast and thus were loaded with 
fuel.  I read elsewhere that an estimated 23,000-24,000 gallons were probably 
on board at impact.  A structural engineer involved in building the towers 
claims they would have survived had it not been for the ensuing raging fire.  
 He said the collapse was due to the melt down of steel girders which, as 
Joel writes, caused the upper stories to fall.
