Linux users will usually be happy to teach you how to fish, but not willing to spoon-feed you information. That said, I would not bother with a null modem connection. Instead, I would install NICs (Network Interface Cards) in both computers, buy an inexpensive hub, and connect the computers that way, using TCP/IP.
