How surreal. I also had a 7 inch eeepc and broke the screen (by myself, can't blame the wife - or the kids - for that one) and replaced it with the 901. Sorry I can't help on the fan side of things tho, would check the ASUS site for schematics of the two netbooks (or a replacement part site and see if the same fan can be used on both) - or just run it without - the atom chip is supposed to run cool I beleive, and as long as the 'book isn't sitting on a radiator or the vents being blocked then it can probably function without the fan (I think! NO WARRANTY - just my guess.)
Anyway, good luck with it - I hope its ok - I love my little eee - have it running Xubuntu set up to mimic Crunchbang as I couldn't get that to install with the last update to Statler, and it works like a dream for me.
