Ok, so it seems I can base the whole thing on Athlons then. So SiS has the
L2 cache working with linuxbios? Would that be with their 735 chipset?
That's not in CVS, though, is it?

We've still got a few months before the money comes through, so if, as you
Bari said, the AMD chipset is only for proof of concept, and SiS or whoever
comes out with a SMP set and actually works with you guys, of course we'll
go with them. I don't know if any of them has ever done a SMP chipset
before, though. Any idea if any manufacturer is putting larger flashes on
any SiS based mobos? A DoC costs about £40, so if that was the case, I
wouldn't mind.

A feature reqest to SiS for their (hopefully) upcoming SiS73xSMP, then, as
they seem to read this list. I wouldn't mind if you would integrate a basic
vga controller on the set, like you've done in the past. It seemes such a
incredible waste to buy AGP cards for dozens of machines, which is only
going to be needed if something goes terribly wrong, and the money could be
spent to buy a few more nodes.

I also saw a plug for a new Hitachi (I think it was) sub-notebook, with has
win98 on it, but "fastboots" into Linux by flipping a small switch on the
side. Sounds suspiciouslly like your stuff. Is it? What would be the issues
with powersaving on such a machine? Does APM work? Does APCI? A bit off
topic here, I know, but perhaps I'll put linuxbios on my laptop too, who
knows?

Thanks,

/Chris
