looks good and degrades gracefully. Unfortunately, many so-called
webdesigners don't know what that means. I've seen some pretty atrocious

It's not just Lynx support. You don't have to think about Lynx (although
it is a good representative and it helps to think in Lynx terms) but if
you think the way the w3c recommends, then you automatically design the
Right Way.

And there are too many sites in which the content is hidden behind several
clicks on huge irrelevant and unnecessary images/javascript/foo.

No, there isn't a case for that. You need to re-think your design. A
star-connected network might be better in this case.
