I have been using Linux for the better part of two years.Swore off
using Windows. With the release of Ubuntu 9.10 I am quickly losing my
patience with it.I ran 9.04 on an older Compaq Presario 2700 laptop. It
worked great.I upgraded the other day and now on both my laptop and
desktop I have no Compiz effects. That and on the laptop AWN no longer
works.I get nothing but a box of lines.Same with Gnome Do.If I install
Xcompmgr the entire screen gets covered with said lines.I have Googled
this issue and apparently my video cards are too old.I tried to
configure the xorg file only to find out the new release doesnt use
one.So for now I am back to using Windows 7 on my laptop and I still
have Ubuntu 9.10 on my desktop.I am not here asking for a solution
just to vent.I am sure I will get the usual replies that I should
stick with Windows, blah blah blah. From what I have read Ubuntu 9.10 is
Linux version of Windows Vista.
