I've known about list-managers since its inception. (I've been running
lists for over 8 years). There are lots of people running lists who
aren't on any listowner lists and who aren't aware of them; who probably
wouldn't join them if they were.

Not all. Lists running the free version of LISTSERV don't automatically
get listed.

As someone who spends a lot of time writing list owners, I can tell
you this is not always the case. Lots of them are, sure. Some are
very high-profile. But I drop 10-15 lists a month from the PAML due
to non-contact. I started querying servers instead of writing human
contacts because at least 50% didn't write back!
