Actually, it sounded to me like Marina didn't believe him. Considering that
most mecha pilots
in this series are ACTUALLY OF REASONABLE AGE FOR THEIR PROFESSION (unlike, say,
SEED's ace ZAFT pilots at age 15 or so) I can't blame her for thinking he's
just a frustrated
fantasist trying to spook her over what her country did to his. 16-year-old
angry kid as
guerrilla or suicide bomber? Plausible. 16-year-old kid as pilot of an
outrageously expensive
and complex superweapon? Riiiight. Real funny, punk, now scram. The REAL
pilot's obviously
some battle-hardened veteran with decades of experience all over the world.
Short of his
being caught on camera with his helmet off standing in the cockpit (like almost
happened in
Moralia), nobody would believe it was him.

That or Marina will casually mention the conversation she had with that crazy
kid from
Kurdistan, and that he actually tried to convince her he was a "Gundam Meister"
or whatever.
