I took a long vacation over Christmas/New Year and have been spending last few days recovering from the extending vegging-out. But GML is still in holiday recovery?
A big reason I held off writing in the list is that I haven't caught G00 ep. 11-13 yet (both BT and synposis). Outside G00... actually I am catching up with 3 weeks worth of Gunota right now... Hmmm 3/4 billion dollars for a Gundam seems over-inflated... to be re-analyzed and discussed... For starter I highly doubt that $10,000 worth of PC's would not be sufficient to run a humanoid robot. A saving of $1.49 million right there. Hobbywise: Seed, Keroro, and MG continue to tread water while G00 soars and Sangokuden and HGUC are pacing. And the "transformation" of Gundam Virtue that's missing in the HG will be realized in the 1/100 model... Ok... so... that's all I have that's on-topic.... what's my New Year Re-Solutions? No more plamod. I've stopped Gunpla since 2007 summer, now I am expanding it to Keroro, Sangokuden and all other plamod. I was waiting for a chance to get the Keroro Robo 2.0, and continue with Sangokuden and always leave a door open for Ghost in the Shell, Dougram etc. But no more! I have the Lu Bei brothers from Sangokuden, that's enough. And everything else all together will be replaced by a new hobby: robotics. (OK I can foresee that I might be buying a few SD models again sometime in the future for my daughter... shall see...) I will probably start with a Lego Mindstroms NXT, it's the quickest and easiest way to get started, but I am not really sure yet. My real goal is to build my own microcontroller-based core, so I have to figure out if the Lego will help me on that direction. It seems the NXT allows homebrew firmware so it's promising. I may or may not revive Project H (Haro). Probably won't make a decision on that within the next few months, since I will start from the microcontroller subsystem and work on the locomotion subsystem (the unique feature of Haro) later. I think if functionality is important, then garbage-can-robots like R2-D2 would be most sensible. Humanoid robots (the BIG thing in Japan) is my ultimate goal, but I doubt I will even attempt it within 2-3 years... Another mini-project that's marginally on topic is related to downloading G00 episodes. I want to enjoy these episodes on my 42" wide screen and audio speakers instead of my 19" 5:4 monitor and $15 squeakers that's almost drowned out by the PC's cooling fans. Also I don't want to run up the electrical bill and noise-pollute the apartment using the PC for BT. So I got an XBox ONE, will hack it and run XBMC on it, and a QNAP NAS which will do BT using only ~20W of juice sans fan-noise and should seamlessly serve out the media files to XBMC. Hoping to make some progress after this weekend... Brought a copy of Mechassualt for the purpose of hacking XBox, but hey perhaps it's a decent game in its own right? Mechassualt for DS is actually kind of fun. -- Dr. Core -------------------------------------------------- The Gundam Mailing List MK-II [email protected] Archives: http://www.gundam.com/gml Help: Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] with this in the BODY: help list
