Sure. I believe there is a some information on the main AIP web site
(http://www.association.org), and the following overview was provided to
me by Andrew Kraft, the AIP's Executive Director:
=---------------------------------------------------------------=
The Association of Internet Professionals is the Internet industry's
largest
professional organisation. It is a broad industry coalition of
professionals
ranging from the developer to the CEO, the marketing and salesperson to
the
graphic designer, and the copywriter to the webmaster. AIP exists to help
its members succeed in business. Its mission, "to support, unify and
represent the global community of Internet professionals" is carried out
through benefits programs, networking and topical discussion opportunities
(both online and through regional chapters), policy advocacy and special
projects, such as the AIP Compensation & Benefits Report or the AIP
Certification Accreditation Council (www.accredit.net).
AIP's membership is diverse, and includes the industry's top companies and
individual decision-makers. With over 100 corporate members, AIP
represents
the companies ranging from ISPs and telcos to software and hardware
manufacturers to web design and service companies to non-profits,
educational institutions and government agencies.
AIP's membership of almost 8500 individuals include the following:
42% SENIOR MANAGEMENT - Defined as positions at the vice-president
level or above - the decision-makers.
41% TECHNICAL/DESIGN - Defined as any non-senior management
position with a technical or design focus, including the "corporate
webmaster."
10% FREELANCE - Defined as independent contractors not under
long-term full-time contract, the self-employed or any others in
similar situations.
7% OTHER BUSINESS - Defined as any non-senior management position
with a business administration, sales or marketing focus.
AIP is run by a democratically elected Board of Directors. The twenty-two
(22) member Board, elected each year by all Voting members in good
standing,
is elected in staggered terms of 2 years in length, with half the Board up
for election each year. Elections take place in May of each year.
Once elected, the Board then further elects its Executive Committee, made
up
of a Chair, Executive Vice Chair, and five (5) Vice Chairs. Two of the
Vice
Chairs also serve as Treasurer and Secretary, respectively.
The chapter leadership is elected by each chapter's constituency of Voting
members in good standing at least once per year.
The International Board employs a full-time staff of eight (8), which
handles the day-to-day operations of the association.
For more information on the association, please contact AIP Executive
Director Andrew Q. Kraft MAIP.
