Netbeans is primarily Java, and will not be so great at anything else.

What would you use for actual programming? Java, C, C++?

IDE's tend to be rather specific to the languages they target and
support well. The others they might have some support for, but it will
not be as good, or useful. Then you find yourself using more than one
IDE and that can be lots of fun for the developer :)
