There is a problem with SCCM 2012 and deploying Windows 7 x64 in UEFI mode.
When booting WINPE from USB or CD, if the boot image on that device does not
match the package and version/instance of the Boot Image assigned to the Task
Sequence, the TS engine in the boot wizard is unable to stage WinPE on a UEFI
configured machine.

I have found it works ok if, during pre-execution, I detect UEFI and format the
drive appropriately. If the computer is BiOS configured the TSEngine wizard is
able to format a raw disk and stage WinPE, but cannot if the disk is raw and
the computer is UEFI enabled.

Also works ok if the WinPE boot image matches the boot image assigned to the
chosen task sequence Exactly.

Is this fixed in newer iterations of SCCM like 1511 or 1602?
Does anyone have script samples that cam prepare the drive correctly during
pre-execution? Looking for something that can detect UEFI or Bios and if the
drive is not ready or compatible or formatted correctly for staging WinPE
perform an appropriate formatting. I wish that the TS engine didn't do a check
the Boot Image so closely during the boot wizard section.

If you still deploy Win7x64,do yourself a favor & deploy it in
#UEFI<https://twitter.com/search?q=%23UEFI&src=hash> mode. That way you can
upgrade securely to
#Windows10<https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Windows10&src=hash> & thank me later.

generally i wouldn't bother doing Windows 7 installs on UEFI hardware, just
switch it to legacy and image with Win7 or stay on UEFI and use a 'real' UEFI
os like Windows 8, 8.1 or 10

Hello all,

We currently have HP ProDesk 600 G1’s as our desktop model and Elitebook 840
G2’s as our laptops. We don’t really have any issue with our imaging. Normal
driver issues when we started, but good to go for a while now. Just got our new
laptop and desktops in (840 G3’s and EliteDesk 800 G1’s) and both seem to use
UEFI as the primary boot system. This was all new to me, but after some
tweaking and head banging (must use USB 3.0 boot drives) I got the systems
booting and pulling down the Task Sequence.

Then I have issues. Focusing on the Elitebook 840 G3’s right now I can’t seem
to get the partitioning done correctly so that after applying the image and
drivers the system boots to the “Windows Boot Manager” and tells me I need run
the CD and do a Startup Repair.

I have found a lot of information of BIOS partitions and UEFI partitions and
tricks and tips, but nothing seems to work right now. So I guess my question
is, can a BIOS - captured image be pushed down to a UEFI system? Also if that
can be done, how should I partition my drives in TS to make it work? My current
setup from research,

I am very happy to post any more information that’s needed. Also may try
building a brand new system on the G3 and capturing it with all the UEFI
partitions, just hate to waste that time if I am just doing something wrong.

Thanks

Brendan
