what would 9Ah and 312v of D cell NiMH get you? A ~100lb pack, 15kW
continuous, maybe 30kw peak?  A single string. Not my favorite option for a
motorcycle, but doable. Of course I have written many times about
paralleling 9Ah D cells with good results. It can be done.
