WOW! I'm not a political person either, but I've got to dissagree with you
Charles. Jamie was bringing up the fact that the BRITISH government has ousted
the inhabitants of the Chagos. Maybe thats OK because they are probably 'of
color' ? or 'primitive' ? or few in number? ... so it really doesn't matter?
Sort of like the French government doing nuclear tests in French Polynesia ....
"The main argument favoring the selection was that only 5,000 inhabitants lived
within a 1,000 kilometer (600 mile) radius of the planned ground zero in
Moruroa and that it would therefore be suitable for atmospheric testing." I
don't know how you'd feel if the (your) government decided to do nuclear tests
600 miles away (maybe out on the Keys?). I'll bet that the 5000 'natives'
living in that radius were not happy about the tests, but they weren't an
'important' culture so the tests went ahead. You 'support your troups' and I
commend you for it. But does that promote a certain bias, is it because the
military base will be US controled that provoked your reaction? No one
suggested the US is throwing the inhabitants off their island, it is being done
by the British government. If you can assure me that you would not complain and
notify the members of this forum if your local navy yard decided to appropriate
your boat because they needed it for target practice, then by all means
complain that there is no room on this forum for the situation of the Chagos.
However, in the past years this forum has seen a lot of ranting against Florida
in particular for their anchoring and live-aboard laws. I would consider that
no less political than a people being evicted from their homes and land in
Chagos. Peter

Hi all,As liveaboards you may have come across the Chagos Islands in the Indian
Ocean. But are you aware of the recent history behind the inhabitants being
thrown off the islands to make way for a US military base?Liz and Jamies/v
