I think if we can get a paid developer, part of the project would be
orientation, where all of us could pitch in to help the developer get
acquintated with the codebase. This isn't the biggest hurdle here IMO.

Yes. Most of the things on your wishlist are things that we can probably
implement just fine on our own. The core engine is the problematic part.
IMO if we do get a paid developer, we should focus their efforts on the
hard parts, otherwise it would just be wasteful.
