Abstract (more a paraphrase than a strict translation):

"This paper describes the use of two complementary technologies from two
different fields:

"OpenMosix - a "clustering" technology which makes it possible to set up
a group of PCs to perform compute-intensive operations, so that they act
rather like a single multiprocessor SMP system

"LTSP - a "terminal server" technology which facilitates very simple
management of large groups of PCs

"Each of these technologies is aimed at a solving a different problem
and can of course be used independently: OpenMosix builds up computing
power by sharing the processors of many machines on a network so that
the workload is balanced acroos the cluster. LTSP makes it easy to roll
out diskless workstations (or"thin clients") with minimal admin
overhead.

"However, put the two together with a mixture of other Unix services
(like ftp, dhcp, nfs, xdm) and you get a hardware and software platform
which can not only perform compute-intensive work but is also easy to
roll out and change. With no more than a simple Etherboot floppy disk or
a PXE remote boot you can add PCs at will to the system and increase the
overall computing power.

"Putting OpenMosix and LTSP together gives an elegant solution which is
both extremely effective, simple to manage, and very cost effective. It
is the ideal solution to the computing needs of many laboratories."
