Many of the items on the list are not pass/fail, but rather provide
information to me to help debug the problem. Unless you actually take
the time to document the output each step along the way, it's difficult
for me to help you.
Saying "everything works until this step" doesn't do much to help me.
What is the display name versus what the host thinks it's name is, etc.
I need all that information. So far, you haven't provided it.

Does it actually have the question marks there?
The script relies upon certain things being there, like a valid ${HOME}
variable being set. If you do a "getent passwd userid", what's the
output?

Notably:
1) the step by step output of the debugging procedure.
2) What distro you're using
3) How did you get fuse on it? (compiled yourself, or installed from
distro packages)
4) exact cut-and-pastes of output.
