'Ending support for i386' is a phrase that needs to be understood carefully.
They're not saying that Intel 32-bit support is going away. There's still
the 486, Pentium (i586) and Pentium Pro (i686).
It's just up until recently, the lowest chip the Linux kernel would support
was the 386. Now, it'll be the 486.
I think you can count on 32-bit Intel support for a very long time.
