According to the docs, the localized central server runs 
on Windows, although clients can run on both Windows and 
UNIX (including clients running as servers).

Haven't yet tried this.

Can't say I've heard of Windows Update being localized. In 
all instances, it might be necessary to update off the M$ 
web server.

IIRC, M$ also issue what they call off-line copies of the 
updated software, so that admins can download this onto a 
local box and distribute the update at their will.
