Illegal - Yes[1]. Impossible - No. People have been able to bypass the TPM chip in the Intel Macs since some time last year[2] - see http://www.osx86project.org et al. As for price, Linux/UNIX wins that one hands down - but at $129 for OS X, I think windows is more expensive[3] - yes there is the Mac hardware catch. As for the hardware ... now that Apple computers have Intel chips in them, they will have to justify the premium on their hardware.[4] I believe their current offers are about the same price as similarly speced machines from Lenovo (thinkpads) and Sony (viaos)[5] though you can probably get a cheaper Dell or Acer with roughly the same hardware specs. In short, if all you want is OS X and have no need for Core Duo processors, ATI video cards et al, then it isn't worth it. If that's the kind of hardware you'd buy ... then I wouldn't be so sure. -- patrick [1] well - i'm not a lawyer so there's probably a way to justify that install if you actually own a retail copy of OS X. [2] speaking of which - the TPM chips in those macs are worrying some people because of their "big brother" potential... [3] well... not that many people I know actually purchased their copy of windows... [4] and no, I'm not trying to start off another (religious) discussion of if the move to intel was worth it or not. [5] except in one major department i can think of... That Thinkpad or Viao will probably be able to do higher resolutions on the same screen size. _______________________________________________ LUG mailing list [email protected] http://kym.net/mailman/listinfo/lug %LUG is generously hosted by INFOCOM http://www.infocom.co.ug/ The above comments and data are owned by whoever posted them (including attachments if any).
