How did U manage to install the Linux on the Dell Latitude D600. I tried a
couple of RedHat based distros with no success. Is it a general prob, or a
vga prob. The installer (anaconda) always failed to detect the monitor type

i had a (quite) similar prob with 9.3 on my laptoy. using ifconfig
worked fine, using the yast TUI (run from the shell) gave problems
like your have, and using the yast GUI worked well.
(this was a broadcom card, on-board a dell latitude d600)
