We have a PS3 doing the job of our primary in-home streaming
device, although we use some no-name-brand-device-I-don't-
remember thing in the bedroom instead, that takes the
external hard drives.

We started off with the PS3 Media Server, but that thing is
simply not stable enough, whether on Linux, Mac or Windows.
Too many issues. It was also more (negatively) sensitive to
PS3 software updates.

After months of hassling, we decided to just pay for a
properly written DLNA server. We're on Wild Media Server.
We're running it on Windows 7, it's simple, works, no drama,
comes with support and is regularly maintained:

The in-built Youtube apps on our PS3 and Tv work, but
they're like the one on your iPhone/iPod/iPad - lots of
content is "broken". A laptop/PC offers the best experience.

Our Sony Tv comes with Sony's BRAVIA Internet Video service,
which has a bunch of video and audio channels I'd never
recommend to anyone or their ostrich, but it's this whole
"Internet Tv" nonesense. Too bad Netflix and friends are
restricted to the U.S. (although I have a solution for that
- when I find the time).

Mark.
