I wondered if somebody more knowledgable might come in on this one.
   Anyway, for what it's worth,  I've never seen a theorbo with only 7
   tied frets.  I'm sure it would work OK but it would greatly reduce the
   resale value of the instrument - buyers like to have mainstream
   instruments.
   I guess that isn't what you want to hear, but I fear that's how most
   people are likely to see it.
