Actually a strap will help keep the lute from turning. However if you can't find a 
strap you're comfortable with you can try what I and several other players do, lay 
something in your lap like a piece of suede leather or some of that rubber shelf 
lining material or anything similar that causes some friction against the body of the 
lute. I have a piece of leather that I keep in my case that I lay across my right knee 
and this helps immeasurabley.
