Can you give us a page reference?  I don't remember this bit.

But it really strikes a chord with me - if I play the (6c) lute standing, and improvising, I find myself wandering round the room! I wonder why?

Mark Wheeler does some nifty sprinting from one side of the stage to the other, but I guess he's just trying to present a moving target (sorry Mark, couldn't resist...).

Thomas Mace, Musicke's Monument. He extolls the wonderful advantages of playing not just while standing, but walking around. Says it frees the mind for improvising. And why limit lute playing to just standing, walking, or even running? I hope Roman doesn't mind my posting this from his website:
