Thanks, Roman...
That sounds right to me. I really have enjoyed renaissance lute over the past
couple decades, and I'll always play it. But one of the reasons I want to "go
baroque" (besides liking the sound, music, and wanting to explore further,
etc...) is because it does seem less laborious. It is kind of like when I play
the 10-course lute for a couple hours, and then after getting tired, I pull out
the mountain dulcimer or hurdy gurdy and they are just SO much easier to make
music with, requiring so much less effort. Of course, I am NOT comparing the
baroque lute to those instruments. It's probably going to fall someplace in
between? :-) I've played a lot of 10-course music in "transitional tunings" and
have found it less laborious...

no, baroque lute requires a lot less physical labor: fewer notes, more space
between them.
