Do you also honor environment variable LINGUAS? Some people expect this.
Removing handling of installed_translations is a 2 lines delete, so I do
not oppose any more. Still it does not harm, even if not used. (Info for the
end-user?)
Since the information may be potentially wrong, I think it is better to
drop it altogether.
