Hi Jürgen

Thanks for looking into this. The file I sentwas automatically generated. I did
not manually save it as a compressed file. I also checked and the option you
are mentioning is not selected. However, I saw that this child document itself
was checked as compressed and it was indeed a compressed file on disk. I
unchecked that option. now the file has a size of 3.2 MB rather than 500 KB
and is plain text. I then triggered a crash in LyX while editing this
document. The resulting emergency file is now uncompressed and looks okay to
me. However, Lyx freezes when I reopen LyX and LyX tries to load the emergency
file. I need to rename or remove the emergency file for LyX to properly start
again.

In conclusion, the behavior does not seem to have anything to do with
compression. I strongly suspect that all the files LyX generates on my
machine are okay. It seems that LyX freezes because of the OS-native dialog box
which pops up on restart to ask me whether I want to reload the file.

Regards, Marcus
