Apologies due. Since Lyx no longer compiles under my native C++ compiler I cannot distinguish between Lyx requiring gcc tools such as assemblers and linkers and gcc requiring them. Given Lyx's passed independence of "gccisms" I am happy to accept that my use of g++ has produced cascading gnu dependencies.
